Is AI As Misunderstood As “The Cloud?”

“We all fear what we don’t understand – Dan Brown

In retrospect, “The Cloud” was a terrible idea for a name, as it caused nothing but confusion and apprehension. To those who don’t understand it, cloud storage is often thought of as an ethereal, non-physical, non-secure way of storing data, when in reality none of those things are true. Cloud storage is simply off-site physical storage that can be accessed remotely, and it’s generally extremely secure.

Now, the term “artificial intelligence” is causing similar misunderstandings. The term itself dredges up visions of robots running rampant, taking over businesses, eliminating jobs, and eventually ruining both the Terminator and Matrix movie franchises. For businesses, the fear is that use of AI agents will compromise data, risk proprietary information and generate unreliable results.

The truth is that none of these things are true when AI is used properly, and understanding what it is helps clarify why.

“The term ‘Machine Learning’ is probably more appropriate,” says MacguverTech CEO Steve “Mac” McKeon. “but with proper implementation, AI agents can be incredibly helpful to businesses, and they’re improving the workflow of businesses in almost every industry.”
